Luther Henry Small, 89, of River Ridge, went to his heavenly home on Monday, August 11, 2014, at his home. Born July 20, 1925 in Mascot, Tennessee, Luther was a disabled coal miner having worked at Harcrow Coal Company and a member of the UMWA. He believed in the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Nolan Small; his parents, Martha Hurst Small and Henry Calvin Small; a son, Sam Small; an infant daughter, Brenda Small; a sister, Mildred Cook; an infant brother, Oliver Small; and a grandson, Brian Keith Johnson.

Survivors include three daughters, Priscilla Johnson and husband, Curt, English, IN; Wanda Howard, Wallins; and Rosemary Hamm and husband, Phillip, Baxter; sixteen grandchildren, Curtis Johnson II, Felicia Johnson, Renae Knowland, Brittany Johnson, Alvin Hamm, Ralph Morgan, Chris Morgan, Phillip Hamm, Jr., Tiffany Hamm, Alex Hamm, Barbara Upchurch, Sam Small, Jr., Bill Howard, Kevin Howard, Travis Howard and Kara Overbee; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Also left to mourn his passing are his ARH Home Health Nurses, Jackie, Patty, Barbara, David, Bobbie and Crystal; special friends, Sonya Parker, Virginia Ledford Smith, Gary Cook, LaBreska Blevins, Jack Monhollen and Mike Steines; and 14 nieces and nephews from the Cook family.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014, at 1pm in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Moore officiating.

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
