Jerry was born August 19, 1931 in Hazelton ND, the son of Tonie and Marcella (Garske) Appert the 7thof 13 children. He was raised in Hazelton where he attended school, graduating, as a valedictorian in 1949. He then attended ND State School of Science for 2 years receiving degrees in welding and aviation. On May 29th, 1952, he married Renee Beastrom. They made their home in Hazelton, where together they raised their 7 children.

They farmed and Jerry also did plumbing with his father for many years. He earned his Master’s in Plumbing and Pipefitting with the union and for many winters he went away and worked. In 1976 they moved to Grand Forks where he was the City Plumbing Inspector for 14 years and in 1990, they returned to Hazelton where he retired at the age of 70. He enjoyed working, fixing things, and cutting down trees in his later years. He was known as “Mr. Fix-it” as he was able to fix almost anything.

He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where he did maintenance for years, including restoring the cedar ceiling. He was also past president of the Farmer’s Union Oil company and on the Cemetery Committee. Member of Senior Citizens.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Renee, of 68 years; children, Susan (Rolf) Purdy, Sharon (Fred) Huss, Jeanette (Scott) Simdorn, Linda (Kevin) Olson, and Michael (Linda) Appert; grandchildren, Nathan, Nolan, Nicholas, Niles, Jared, Daren, Melanie, Amanda, Jason, Justin, Nichole Brian, Dustin, Brittany, Brandon, Brianna, Derrick, and Jonathan; and 44 great grandchildren.
