James married Laura Angelia Briggs, Sauk Co Wisconsin 3 June 1848 This couple produced 6 or 7 children. Laura passed away in February 1865 Olmstead Co Minn. He married Melissa Hannah Bates Maxon in 1866 she was a school teacher and had several children her husband Austin Maxon had been killed by lightning. This marriage had a very short life and James moved west to Idaho as he is listed on the 1870 census in Boise, later moving to Soldier where he was the Post Master and Justice of the Peace for many years. He married his third wife Mariah Jane Glenn 21 July 1878 in Boise and they had a son Charles L. Peck born 7 November 1879. Charles was killed 4 October 1907 working on LIme Creek when a tree fell on him.
James was the son of John Peck and Abigail Poland of Vermont and New Hampshire younger brother to Jared George Peck who also lived on Camas Praire.
