Florence Parrish, 90, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 9:03 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.
Florence was born on April 29, 1930 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of A. Thomas and Nettie (McDonald) Moffitt. On September 10, 1948 she married James E. Parrish. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Florence and Jim raised five children.
Florence was a graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul High School in Nauvoo. Shortly after high school she married Jim, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage. She lived her entire life in the Nauvoo and Ft. Madison area. Being an only child, a large family was important to her and all of her efforts were centered around nurturing a strong and loving family. She never missed a birthday, recital, sporting event or program of her children, grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren. She was the glue and center of her family.
Florence was a woman of strong faith and displayed that by her generosity, thoughtfulness, compassion, caring spirit and her support for the mission of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and School. She worked at various secretarial jobs early in her life before focusing on raising her family. She returned to work later as the Executive Assistant to the Director of the AEA of Southeast Iowa. She retired after 20 years of service. Following retirement slowing down was not in her DNA. She remained active at church helping with Touching the Future Campaign, funeral dinners and outside the church she helped with Blind Support Group in Ft. Madison and singing with a group at nursing homes, just to name a few.
When she wasn’t volunteering or attending family functions Florence enjoyed spending time with her cousins and friends, visiting and sharing lots of stories and laughter. She also enjoyed playing card games. She will be missed by all those whose lives she has touched.
