Ronald Wayne Garner, age 62, of Carthage, Missouri, formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 7:47 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, after battling a long illness. He was born July 30, 1951, in Springfield, Missouri. He was adopted by Robert and Irene (Koehnken) Garner at the age of 17 months. Ronald was a 1969 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army following graduation. He served two years of active duty in Germany before returning home. Upon his return home, Ronald, worked several odd jobs before settling in at the Colonial Bakery in Springfield where he stayed for 15 years. After leaving the bakery he began hauling cattle over-the-road until retiring in 2009. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his long-time companion, Althea Burlison; one son, Nicky Couch and his wife, Kandy, of Sarcoxie; one daughter, Vanessa Going of Carthage; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. His parents Robert and Irene Garner preceded him in death. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses. Online condolences may be shared at this website.
