Thomas J. Picknally, 63, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 30, 2021 at Lahey Hospital. He was born on July 23, 1957 in Springfield, the son of the late Carmen and Frances “Nancy” Picknally (Devine). He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law, Charlotte Napolitan.

Tom graduated from East Longmeadow High School, class of 1975 alongside his childhood sweetheart, Cyndy (Napolitan) Picknally. In the request of his mother, he finished college attending STCC and WNEC before marrying in 1979. Cyndy and Tom spent an amazing 42 years married and 50 years together. Tom was a loyal parishioner of St. Michael’s church and a member of the American Bus, New England Bus and United Motor Coach Associations.

A true family man, Tom worked in his family business, Peter Pan Bus Lines. Tom served as Senior Vice President of Maintenance. He worked alongside his father, Carmen until he retired. In 1998 Tom was thrilled to have his son Joe join him, marking the beginning of the 4th generation. Tom was dedicated to his career working up until his recent passing. It brought him much joy that he was able to grow and expand the company over the years alongside his beloved cousin, Peter.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Cynthia (Napolitan) Picknally, is his son Joe Picknally, and his wife Maureen (Midghall) Picknally, of East Longmeadow. Two beloved grandsons, Patrick and Ryan; Two Sisters, Betsy Cunningham (Guy) and Nancy Cassista (Michael); One brother, Carmen “Bill” Picknally (Pat); Father-in-Law, Donald Napolitan: Two Sister-in-Laws, Donna Napolitan Benito (Bill) and Lynda McCabe( Paul); his Aunt Jean Montana, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, as well as cousins, friends and colleagues.

Tom loved his life, creating and sharing memories with his family and friends. As a boy, he was a proud cub/ boy scout, little league baseball player, and altar boy. He fondly remembered delivering newspapers as a kid and his first car, an old beat-up mustang. Baseball remained his favorite sport and the Red sox were his team, however he genuinely enjoyed watching any game, especially the Celtics and Patriots. Fenway park was a place he visited often and was lucky to enjoy many games with his son and grandsons.

He was proud beyond words of his son whom he passed on the same passions of baseball and music. His son married the daughter he never had, and they blessed him with two beautiful grandsons who were his life. He loved nothing more than playing catch, watching their games and sharing his love of music with them. Dedicated to his job when he finally took some time away it was always to head to the shore. Most of his memories were in Westbrook, CT enjoying the beach and fishing with his family, but he also loved his time spent vacationing in more recent years at Chatham Bars Inn and South Kingston, Rhode Island. These times he had with his family will be treasured by those left to carry on his legacy.

Services will be private and held at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
