Lillian Gladys Atkins, 80, of 102 Washington St., Pembroke, died Saturday, November 7, 1998 at her home. Born in Tazewell Co. on August 12, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Blanche Smith Spence. Lillian was a devoted homemaker, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pembroke, a solid, working supporter of her husband's work with the "Bible Bus" ministry and her love and care of bluebirds earned her the recognition as the "Blue Bird Woman of Giles County." Her husband, Garnett W. Atkins, preceded her in death on July 9, 1991. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles W. and Marti H. Atkins of Blacksburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda A. and Stephen L. Jamison of Roanoke; two grandsons, Charles P. Atkins and Troy S. Jamison both of Richmond; two sisters, Frances S. McKnew of Crew and Wilma S. Kieffer of Edinburg, Texas and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 1998 in the First United Methodist Church in Pembroke with the Rev. J. Max Brown, the Rev. Raymond S. Kelley, and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey at Pearisburg
