Emil was born on November 30, 1915 in Moody County, SD to George and Amanda Jahn Peper. He attended Tidd Country School in Riverview Township and then farmed with his father and other farmers in the area. Emil married Wilma Bothern on February 14, 1941 at Rock Rapids, IA and they started farming near Flandreau. They farmed for 3 years at White, SD and then returned to Flandreau in 1953. They retired from farming in 1970 and continued to live on the farm until 1990 when they moved into Flandreau. Wilma preceded him in death on February 5, 1997. Emil was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, and his parents.
