Robert married first Elizabeth Langstaff in 1816. They had two children: Jane (Thomas) Pulman of Barnard Castle, Durham, England, and George (who died as an infant). Elizabeth died in 1818. Robert married second Margaret Brunskill of Gawen House, Staindrop, Durham, England in 1819. Robert was a farmer at Friar Cote House, Staindrop, Durham, England, which was the farm next to Gawen House. Robert and Margaret had 10 children: Mary Addison (who died at age 19 in Staindrop), George (Mary) Addison, Margaret (John) Edwards of Sanel, Mendocino, California, Elizabeth (John) Garthwaite) of Cassville, Wisconsin, Robert Addison (died age 2 in Staindrop), Eleanor (Alfred) Bark of Little Grant, Wisconsin, Robert (Martha) Addison of Yamhill, Oregon, Charles (Mary) Addison of Redwood, Minnesota, Sarah (William) Colling of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Mary (Thomas) Weite.

In 1845, his son George traveled from Liverpool, England, to the Port of New Orleans and then up the Mississippi to Wisconsin. Robert, Margaret and 7 of their children followed taking the ship Raritan from Liverpool, England, arriving at the Port of New Orleans June 1, 1846. Also on this ship was Eleanor's future husband, Alfred Bark. who Robert hired to care for his cattle on the voyage. "This was destined to be a sorrowful family, for on the way to Wisconsin, up the Mississippi river, the mother fell overboard and was drowned." Robert Addison formerly of Great Britain but lately a resident of the Town of Little Grant Grant County Wis died at his residence in the town of Little Grant June 20, 1859 leaving the following children, his wife being dead.

Jane Pulman aged 43 years residing in England
Margaret Ann Edwards aged 36 years residing in California
Elizabeth Garthwaite aged 35 residing in Wisconsin
Eleanor Bark aged 30 residing in Wisconsin
Robert Addison aged 28 residing in Oregon
Charles William Addison aged 26 residing in Wisconsin
Sarah Addison aged 20 residing in Wisconsin
Mary Addison aged 18 residing in Wisconsin

The aforesaid Robert Addison, deceased, having died intestate, having personal property about the value of (92) Ninety Two dollars and real estate consisting of 80 acres of land value Five Hundred Thirty dollars. We the undersigned heirs do respectfully petition that John Welsh and John Garthwaite residents of Grant County be appointed administrators to settle the affairs of the aforesaid Robert Addison, Deceased.

Guardianship for Mary Addison, minor and heir of Robert Addison, was applied for and granted to Alfred Bark.
