Eleanor (McClain) Whitmire of Brownsburg died February 16 in Indianapolis. She was 94. Born September 14, 1909, in Avon, she was a daughter of Glen and Hazel (Ross) McClain. She was the widow of Dwight Whitmire.

Mrs. Whitmire graduated from Avon High School, Madam Blaker's Teacher's College, and Butler University. She worked 20 years as a first-grade teacher for Hendricks County before retiring in the 1980s. She worked 28 years as a first-grade teacher for Fall Creek Elementary and Crooked Creek Elementary schools, both in Indianapolis.

She was a member of Avon United Methodist Church and the Indiana State Teacher's Association.

Survivors include a niece, Madeline Carter; nephews, Ross and Ray McClain; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jeff and Ashley Carter, Jennifer Stone, Janet Boggs, Michah McClain, Amy Givan and Matt McClain; and six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Preceding her in death were brothers, Ewan and Max McClain.

Services were February 21 at Conkle Funeral Home in Avon. Interment was a Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Riley Children's Hospital or the Crises Pregnancy Center, 2413 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
