Sylvie L. Escat Saunders was born the daughter of Laurent Escat and his wife Eugenie, nèe Chanfrau, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She married George A. Saunders on 10 June 1903. Together they lived in the New Orleans area raising a family of four children. Sylvie was widowed in 1942, but continued as a mother, caretaker, grandmother, and, at death, great grandmother to her family brood.
