Matthew was a Private and served in Co. E, 75th Indiana Infantry Regiment. He registered on 01 July 1863 from Huntington County Indiana.
In researching available Civil War internet sites, I discovered that following the Battle a Chickamauga burial was not as efficient as would have been hoped. Some information indicates mass graves at the battlefield. Other information indicates that following some time after the battle at Chattanooga, bodies were exhumed and moved to the Chattanooga National cemetery with most bodies being unidentifiable, therefore there are no markers with names of the soldiers buried.
That being said, with the title of this cemetery being the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, I have placed my uncle Matthew where he died.
By creating this memorial for him, hopefully he can rest in peace knowing he is once again with his family even if it is only through the links below.
