Cecil Charles Downs, 90, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at his residence in Manchester. He was born on January 1, 1931, in Delhi, the son of Charles and Opal (Hansel) Downs. Cecil was raised and educated in the Delhi area. He later served honorably in the United States Army in Korea. Cecil was at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
On August 21, 1954, Cecil was united in marriage to Madonna "Donna" (Wall) Downs, at the Delaware County Courthouse in Manchester. Four children were born to this union. The family moved to a farm north of Manchester in 1964. They then moved to Manchester in 2009.
Cecil enjoyed football especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his four children, Vickie (Garry) Morris of Delhi, Bill (Kelly Antons) Downs of Dundee, Deb (Chris Krapfl) Wieser of Manchester, and Lori (Johnny) Reimers of Marion; eight grandchildren, Amy (Vern) Tjaden, Sarah Wieser, Matt Wieser, Abby (Andy) Nielsen, Jill Morris, Justin (Amanda) Downs, Lucas (Kassie Stocker) Wieser, and Ian Reimers; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Masyn Wieser, Madison, Blaine, and Hunter Wieser, Ryan Tjaden, Addison Nielsen, Hailey Condit, Alizandra and Edwin Tompkins, Liam Downs, and one great-grandchild due in March; his two sisters, Donna (Veryl) Hankins and Shirley Lighty; his sister-in-law, Donna Wall; and many nieces and nephews.
Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Donna in 2017; his parents; and his siblings.
