Samuel B. Keady

The whole community was greatly shocked Saturday morning when the death of Samuel B. Keady occurred. The two brothers Samuel and Thomas had gone in the country for a walk and upon reaching the Northwestern Railway, they started south on the track and when near the Riley home a short freight train came upon them from the north. Neither one heard it coming as both were deaf. Thos. heard the last whistle just in time to jump from the track but could not reach his brother, who was walking a few feet ahead of him. The train struck Samuel, cutting off one leg and breaking the other, also breaking one arm. The engineer stopped his train as soon as he could and put the injured man aboard and rushed for Peoria, with all possible speed; but Mr. Keady died before medical aid could be reached. Every one who knew him feel they have lost a true friend and the church one of her best supporters. Mr. Keady's funeral was held in the Presbyterian church, Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Rev Wiles, of Princeville and Rev McCormick of Dunlap officiating. A quartette composed of May Poplett, Lula Hervey, Joe Duggins and D. H. Hervey sang some of his favorite songs.
