Mrs. C.H. Kent Of Alta Dies Suddenly; Rites Held Monday

The Alta community was shocked and grieved Saturday morning as the word was received that Mrs. Lula Kent had passed on. Mrs. Kent has gone about her work as usual the ay before but Saturday morning around 6 o'clock she was taken suddenly and seriously ill in her home with a heart attack and passed away at 10:15 a.m.
Emma Lurella Kent, daughter of Allen and Alice C. Poplett, was born in Peoria county near what was know as Kellar Station February 4, 1878 and passed away at the at age of 79 years and 12 days.
She was united in marriage to Clifford H. Kent November 20, 1907 by Rev. C. E. Marsh, a Congregational minister in Edelstein, in her home near Dunlap. She was a member of the Edelstein church for several years. During her life she taught school in the Blue school near Princeville, the Timmons and South Hampton schools near Edelstein, the grade school in Dunlap, and the Parks school near Dunlap.
She took an active part in the Edelstein church in the choir and teaching a Sunday school class for several years. They then moved to their home they built, which was near Alta, and lived there ever since.
She took her church membership to the Alta Presbyterian church where she was a member at the time of her death. She was a charter member of the Ladies' Aid and taught a Sunday school class for several years.
Mr. and Mrs. Kent would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this year.
Mrs. Kent was the Alta correspondent for The Telephone for a number of years.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Merle; two sisters, Miss May Poplett and Mrs. Harrison Dimon; and two grandchildren, Janet and James Kent; together with other relatives and a host of friends who will miss the departed loved one.
Mrs. Kent was one of a family of six children. Her parents, a sister, two brothers, and an infant son, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held from Schreiner Mortuary to the Alta Presbyterian church at 2:00p.m.Monday, with the pastor, Rev. Paul Jassimedes, in charge. Mrs. Ginger Brattain played several favorite selections on the organ. Six of her good friends bore her to her last resting place in Mt. Hawley cemetery near Alta. They were Walter Smith, Floyd Brown, Harold Campbell, Lloyd Depue, all members of her Sunday school class, and Clarence McNaught and Rollie Hammel.
