W. C. Allen Dies
W. C. Allen, who had been a resident of Galena since the early seventies, departed this life Saturday afternoon death being due to apoplexy though he had been in poor health about three years, his ill health being due to sunstroke. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife and son, O. E. Allen, who at the time of his father’s death was in Wichita.
The funeral was held at two o’clock Monday afternoon at the family residence, 902 Galena Avenue, conducted by Rev. S. F. Stevens, with interment in the Galena cemetery.

Apoplexy and Paralysis Prove Fatal
to Long-Time Resident of Galena
—Funeral Tomorrow Afternoon.
W. C. Allen, 72 years old, died at his home at the corner of Ninth street and Galena avenue at 2:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon. He had been confined to his bed for several weeks and had been ill two or three years. He was subject to apoplexy and this, together with paralysis, caused his death. The funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the residence. The body will be buried in Quaker Valley (sic) cemetery.
Mr. Allen was born near Indianapolis, Ind., in 1841. He was married August 23, 1860. Today would have been his fifty-third wedding anniversary. He moved to southeast Kansas about forty years ago and had lived in or near Galena ever since. He was engaged In farming near Lowell for sometime and he also taught school at that place several years. After giving up farming he engaged in the mercantile business at Springfield. He later conducted a general merchandise store at Galena between Seventh and Eighth streets on Main street. A few years ago he was forced to give up that vocation on account of ill health. Since then his health had been steadily becoming worse.
He is survived by a wife and one son, O. E. Allen, of Wichita, and eleven grandchildren. The latter are: Carl and Allen Johnson of Galena, Boyd Johnson of Springfield, Donald and Gerald Allen of Galena, William and Lloyd Allen of Houston, Texas, Mrs. D. M. Miller of Hamilton, Canada, and Misses Elsie, Pauline and Mildred Jamison of Houston, Texas.
