He was born Feb. 28, 1929, in rural Gilson, Ill., the son of Glenn and Melva Lewis Saline. He married Marilyn Phillips on Dec. 6, 1958, in Knoxville, Ill. She survives of Dahinda, Ill.
Also surviving are two sons, James P. (Vicki) Saline of Greenville, N.C., and Gregory L. Saline and Tammie Leaf of Knoxville, Ill.; one daughter, Kammie (Keith) Bell of Dahinda, Ill.; two sisters, Joan Mahoney of Toulon, Ill., and Jane (James) Gunther of Knoxville, Ill.; and one brother, Gary (Jocelyn) Saline of Dahinda, Ill.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dean L. and Eugene Saline.
He was reared and educated in Knoxville, Ill.
He farmed for 20 years, then later worked for the state of Illinois as a grain elevator examiner, retiring in 1993.
He was a 40-year member of the Appleton Fire Department, serving as Chief and District Fire Marshall of the Knoxville Fire Protection District.
He served in the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War.
Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Ill.
