Joseph H. "Bill" Bone, Jr. born October 22, 1931 in Columbia, S.C. to Joseph H. Bone, Sr. and Nellie Virginia Belle passed away October 7, 2007 at the home of his daughter in Provo, Utah surrounded by his family, after many years of battling with Congestive Heart Failure.

Bill first worked as a radio announcer in Hartsville, SC at age 16 while attending high school and participating on the All-State champion basketball team. After graduation he attended Brigham Young University for a quarter before he enlisted in the Air Force. To attend Officers Candidate School he had to transfer to the Army, where he completed Airborne Paratrooper training and OCS; and was transferred to Ft Rucker, Alabama to train infantry soldiers. Here he met and married his first wife Marjorie Cutchen (divorced in 1998).

He fought in Korea from Feb. 1953 to Sept. 1953 serving in the 45th Infantry Division, 179 Infantry Regiment where he was a General's Briefing Officer. He was very grateful that he never lost a man in his platoon. Bill graduated in 1958 from the University of South Carolina (the real USC) and accepted a job working in the aerospace industry for Boeing in Seattle, and later for Lockheed Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale, Calif. and Huntsville, Alabama developing a computer program that would eventually take the astronauts to the moon and back. In 1965 he accepted a position as an Assistant Vice President at the First National Bank of Boston. In 1969 he became a consultant with Peat, Marwick and Mitchell and moved to Atlanta, Georgia.

In 1972 he started his own consulting firm, Institute for Professional Management, and moved to Utah in 1974. With the support and insight of Utah County's Auditor, Clerk, Recorder, Treasurer and others he implemented a "relational database" computer system which won the "Efficiency in Government Award" from the National Association of Counties. He brought his expertise in developing and implementing computer systems to many counties and school districts throughout the country before he retired. He was active in the LDS church serving in many capacities. Bill loved his family above all else.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, LaVon Porter Youngberg, children, Jalayne (David) Lamph, Karen (Jeffrey) Smith, Kevin (Maria) Bone, and Allison (Steven) Thorpe. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and sisters, Gwen (Max) Llewellyn, S. Carolina; Taralee (Tony) Christensen, W. Jordan, Utah; Pauline (Ted) Brannen, Riverton, Utah and Geretha (Robert) Bone, Washington Terrace, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gerald S. Bone, S. Carolina. The family wishes to thank the Mt. Ogden Care Center for their compassionate care of our father/ grandfather.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 15th at the Rock Canyon Ward, 3050 Mojave Lane, Provo, Utah under the direction of the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary.
Burial will be at the Gardens of the Wasatch Cemetery, South Ogden, Utah.
