PATROLMAN HURT IN CRASH IS DEAD
Charles Simpson, 35, Injured Sunday When Motor Overturned Succumbs.
53D FATALITY OF YEAR
Patrolman Charles Simpsono, 35 years old, 2019 Pirtle Street, died at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at the City Hospital from injuries suffered Sunday, when an automobile in which he was riding skidded and overturned in a ditch on the Seventh Street Road near Bernheim Lane. Simpson suffered a fractured skull.
His brother, John Simpson, was driving the automobile. With him besides Patrolman Simpson, was another brother, George Simpson, 41; Marlow Wolfe, 26, a medical student, and Dr. Hawkes, also a medical student. They were injured only slightly.
John Simpson told the police that another automobile crowded his off the road, causing it to skid and overturn. County Patrolman Carl Smith said the automobile skidded sixty feet before overturning.
Besides his two brothers, Patrolman Simpson is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gertrude Landes Simpson; three sons, Charles Simpson, Jr., Norman Simpson and Clifford Simpson; two daughters, Misses Dorothy Simpson and Sylenellia Simpson, and his father, Charles Simpson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the home of John Simpson, 1729 Duncan Street.
Simpson's death was the fifty-third fatality resulting from traffic accidents in Jefferson County this year.
