José was preceded in death by his parents, Teodoro and Evangelina Griego, his wife, Helen Griego, sister, Mary Candelaria, brother, Octavio Griego, son, Gerald Vargas and grandson, Lucas Vargas.
Joe is survived by his brother, Manuel (Elsie) Griego and family, sisters, Grace Griego and family and Evangeline Torres, mother of his children, Anjelina Vargas, children, Patrick Vargas, Rachel Vargas and Ann (Andy) Gutiérrez, step-daughter, Kathleen (Louie) Vargas, grandchildren, Kendra, Isaiah, Miranda, Patrick Jr, Gabrielle, Alex, Fabian (Chenoah), Adrian (Chantel) and Julian, great-grandchildren, Elijah, Laileyanna, Adynn, Aydrian and Ayven and many other loving, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
Joe retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Joe spent majority of his life ranching and raising cattle, was also a firefighter in our surrounding states. Joe was a hard-working man and a devoted Christian who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Viewing for Joe's family and friends will be on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a prayer service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Rodarte, NM. Burial will take place at the Llano Presyterian Cemetery, in Llano, NM.
