He was the loving husband of Carmela “Connie” (Vulcano) Alvine, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born, October 15, 1932, in London, England, he was a son of the late Anthony and Anna (Cannariato) Alvine.
Alfred was a graduate of Immaculata High School. He was also a graduate of St. Francis University, and Montclair State University, where he earned his master’s degree in education.
He was employed as an educator for over 40 years with Bloomingdale Board of Education, Bloomingdale, NJ, and retired as a middle school principal in 1992.
After retirement, Alfred served as an adaptive ski instructor for children with special needs in Killington, VT.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his three sons: Anthony J. Alvine of Vienna, VA; Alfred J. Alvine, Jr. of Carnegie, PA; and Andrew M., husband of Annamaria (Amadio) Alvine of Muhlenberg Township. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Cristina M. Alvine, Olivia A. Alvine and Nicolas A. Alvine. Other survivors include his two nieces: Susan (Navatta), wife of Dave Hembach of Berryville, VA; and Robin (Navatta), wife of Doug Converse of King George, VA.
Alfred was preceded in death by his sister: Irina “Irene” C. (Alvine), widower of Cono “Sam” Navatta, and by his niece Rachel A. Navatta, wife of Flint Criley of Annandale, VA.
In Pennsylvania, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday evening at 5 p.m. at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Hyde Park. A viewing will be held from 4-5 p.m. in the church. In New Jersey, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes R.C. Church, 681 Main Street, Paterson, NJ 07503. A viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Paterson, NJ.
