Last rites for Mrs. Hattie Garrett, 62, who succumbed at the Winona Infirmary December 2nd. were conducted at the Nations Church, Friday afternoon, December 3rd at 2 o'clock with her pastor, Rev. J.M. Palmertree, assisted by Rev. John A. Wade of the Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Lee Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Jeff Chesteen, Ford Garrett, Millard Garrett, William Garrett, Calvin Garrett and L.O Atkins. B.R. Crossley and Mr. and Mrs. Kimble Crossley, her nephews and noted musicians of Columbus, had charge of the music and sang several appropriate selections.
Mrs. Garrett, the daughter of the late Monroe and Minerva Franks Crossley, was born in Alabama on March 29th, 1886. She was married to Albert M. Garrett who preceded her in death about 13 years ago. She was a member of the primitive Baptist Church near Kilmichael.
Survivors include two daughters, Miss Rema Garrett, a nurse at the Winona Infirmary, and Mrs. Evelyn Johnson also of Winona; two sons, Doyle and Denton Garrett, both of Stewart; two sisters, Mrs. Mart Dees, Marianna, Ark. and Mrs. J.B. Atkins, Kilmichael; one brother, George Crossley, Vernon, Ala., and 3 grandchildren.
