On Februrary 16 , 1881, Mr. Bankston married widow, Margaret Elizabeth (Goodson) Lyon. Two children were born of the second marriage.

Details from 1900 census include: dwelling in Egypt Township, Carroll County, Missouri; married to Margurite Bankston for total of 20 years; occupation is auctioneer; 4 members in the house including John 66, Margurite 57, Alma Bankston 14 and Lena Lyons 22.

The 1910 Census finds them residing in Rush Spring, Grady County, Oklahoma. Additional details include: service in the Civil War, married 29 years, members in household are John T. Bankston 76 and Margaret E. Bankston 67.
