Percy "Melvin" Edwards, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2021 after 22 months of challenges he endured caused by a debilitating stroke.

Melvin was born on August 9, 1932 in Buckingham County, VA to Percy S. and Danie Shumaker Edwards.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters and their husbands: Hilda (Charles) Tall, Shirley (Billy) Watkins; and his younger brother, Danny Edwards Sr.

He is survived by his sister, Georgene (Mooney) Huggett; daughter, Jenny Edwards; son, Russell (Stephany) Edwards; grandsons, Travis, Jesse, and Sammy Edwards; sister-in-law, Dianna Edwards, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his soulmate and best friend for the past 25 years, Nancy Van Camp; also the mother of his children, Helen Earehart; and extended family: Dennis, Traci and Eva Van Camp, and the David family of FL.

Melvin joined the Army when he was 17 and was sent to Korea shortly after he turned 18; where he fought proudly from 1950-1951 with the 2nd Engineers. Years later he reunited with several men he had served with in Korea, by attending the Korean Veterans reunions in various states and also the annual reunion in VA Beach. Special bonding and memorable friendships were made during these events which Melvin thoroughly enjoyed attending. Melvin was a member of the 2nd Eng Combat Battalion Association and also the Yorktown Fleet Reserve #172 where he loved to visit often to socialize and relax.

Melvin loved people, especially his family, neighbors and friends. He also loved to discuss cars and exchange war stories. He was a happy man and was always fun to be with.

A private family burial is planned with a Celebration of Life at a later date.
