Mrs. Virginia Allen Sumner, 78, of Lancaster, widow of William B. Sumner, Jr., passed away Friday, January 15, 2021, at MUSC – Lancaster Medical Center.
She was born January 6, 1943, in Union, a daughter of the late Raymond Cecil Allen and Ruby Mae Casey Allen.
Mrs. Sumner was a member of Wade Memorial Presbyterian Church. She had worked for Springs Memorial Hospital for over twenty-five years. She loved her grandchildren and her church and enjoyed sitting in her sunroom birdwatching.
Mrs. Sumner is survived by a son, Ken “Bighouse” Sumner and his wife Dawn of Florence; a daughter, Casey S. Cato and her husband Jeff of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Joshua Cato, Jonathan Cato, Jacob Cato, Kathleen Sumner, and Lee Mozingo; a great-grandson, Brooks Cribb; three brothers, Phillip Allen and his wife Wanda of Tennessee, Kevin Allen and his wife Debbie and Joey Allen and his wife Denise of Lockhart; and a sister, Susan Boling of Chester.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sumner was preceded in death by a brother, Chris Allen.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sumner will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the graveside at Lancaster Memorial Park with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Wade Memorial Presbyterian Church, PO Box 2767, Lancaster, SC 29721. Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. Sumner.
