Mamie LaDonna Underwood of Miami, OK went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Integris Miami Hospital in Miami, OK. She was 72.

LaDonna was born July 26, 1948 in Commerce, OK to Larnce and Mamie (Post) Cowles. She had lived in Miami most of her life. She graduated from Wyandotte High School class of 1966, N.E.O. A&M College in Miami, OK in1968 and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK in 1970 with a teaching degree. LaDonna married the love of her life George Underwood on June 29, 1973. She began her teaching career in Afton, OK but found her life’s calling teaching kindergarten at Picher – Cardin Elementary School. For over 30 years she poured into the lives of hundreds of students, starting them off well on their path in life. “Mrs. Underwood” was so proud of all of “her” students and loved to hear what they were doing. Even after retiring, she couldn’t stay away from teaching and taught at Miami Head Start for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miami, OK where she was very active in the FBC Cares ministry and spent countless hours meeting the needs of those around her. She was happiest when she was spending time with her kids and grandkids, who will greatly miss their “Nana.”

LaDonna was preceded in death by her parents.

LaDonna is survived by her husband of 47 years, George Underwood of the home, 1 son, Jason Underwood of Miami, OK, 1 daughter, Angie Fuller and husband Billy of Edmond, OK, 1 sister, Nancy Herod and husband Ken of Mounds, OK and 3 grandchildren, Benjamin Fuller, Adleigh Fuller and Nathan Fuller and several beloved nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Miami, OK. Rev. Rick Longcrier will officiate. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK. Dean Post, Harrell Post, Mike Johnson, Justin Herod, Levi Herod and Scotty Baldridge will serve as pallbearers.
