Owen Easterly, 38, of Gorham was buried today without funeral services in accordance with a wish he expressed in a note he wrote before he committed suicide by drinking poison. Easterly requested that no preaching, singing or a funeral be held for him. In the note he also wrote that he had been despondent because he was told he was suffering from tuberculosis and would not live two years. A $5 bill, to be used to pay his only debt, was attached to the note.
Easterly was a son of a former county board chairman. He is survived by six children.
