Nancy Arbogast's Life Story

Nancy Kaye, the daughter of Willard J. and Maxine L. (Roseberry) Wahl, was born on February 8, 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa. She grew-up in Parkersburg, IA where her parents owned Wahl Hardware. Working in her family’s hardware store is where Nancy claimed to have “acquired her life-long dislike of dusting”.

After graduating from Parkersburg High School, Nancy attended the University of Iowa where she studied to become a dental hygienist and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. One day after graduating, she married her husband Kenneth Arbogast on June 9, 1963. They were soon joined by their sons Scott in 1964 and Eric in 1966. After Ken accepted an administrative role in Oskaloosa Community School District, they settled there for 32 years where Nancy continued to practice dental hygiene. After retiring, they moved to Norwalk to be near their beloved grandsons, Mitchell and Jackson.

Nancy had a life-long passion for volunteering. “Grandma Nancy” especially enjoyed helping kindergarten children where she went to performances, helped them plant seeds, and taught them to brush their teeth. She also enjoyed her time volunteering for Norwalk Music Boosters as her grandsons are music lovers.

Grandma Nancy was the best grandma! She never missed a game, performance, or any other significant event. She baked thousands of treats over the years. (If you haven’t had either her pumpkin or Dutch Letter bars, you missed out!) Nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than a butterfly kiss from Mitchell or a guitar performance from Jackson. She loved those boys!

Nancy is survived by her sons, Scott (Dawn) of Tracy, CA and Eric (Teri) of Norwalk; and two grandsons, Mitchell and Jackson of Norwalk. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 2014; her father, Willard in 2001, and her mother, Maxine in 2018.

Nancy’s family would like to sincerely thank the amazing staff at John Stoddard Cancer Center as well as her loving caretakers at Taylor House.
