Virginia was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Wichita Falls to Willie and J.W. Rountree. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1947, and married Bill Floyd in 1950. After her four sons were older, Virginia worked as a bookkeeper at the Hub S&Q Clothiers. After retirement, Virginia and Bill began woodworking as a hobby and traveled the country attending craft shows. They also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
After Bill's death in 2011, Virginia moved to Presbyterian Manor where she stayed active with crafts, painting ceramics to sell at craft sales to support the Manor's benevolent fund. After moving to Fort Worth in 2016, she focused her talents on making small head pillows for family, friends, and fellow residents. She was known as the pillow lady at Lakewood Village, and nothing gave her more pleasure than making and giving away hundreds of pillows. At the time of her death she had 50 pillows ready to give away, so they will be distributed in her honor to family and friends.
For more than 50 years, Virginia attended the North Fourth and Broadway Church of Christ, where Bill was minister. They took care of every aspect of the church, from administration to service planning and organization. Longtime members of North Fourth were Virginia's extended family. When Bill was no longer able to preach and the church building sold, Virginia placed membership at the Tenth and Broad Church of Christ until her move to Fort Worth to be near family. She was a member of the Lakewood Church of Christ at the time of her death.
Her grandchildren remember Memaw as always giving unconditional love with doses of the truth lovingly mixed in. Throughout her life, she showed her love for the Lord by her unselfish service to others.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; son, Mike; great-granddaughter, Eveyn Elizabeth Pate; brothers, Thel Rountree, W.T. (Bo) Rountree, and Willard Rountree; and sisters, Novie Jean Dillard, Vic Britton, Bobbie Stagner, and Bea Phillips.
She is survived by sons, Mark and wife Liz of Arlington, Texas; Charles of Austin, Texas; and John and wife Tina of La Marque, Texas; and daughters-in-law, Kathy Floyd of Wichita Falls and Bonnie Sinclair of Pflugerville, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Robert Sandefur and wife Jane of Garland, Texas; Rheana Powell and husband Brandt of Robinson, Illinois; Steven Floyd-Thaut and husband Mark of San Marcos, California; Elizabeth Pate and husband Gavin of Arlington, Texas; Christy Floyd of Pflugerville; Andrew Floyd and wife Liz of Leander, Texas; Jonathan Floyd; Heather Eanes and husband Chad of Plano; Joseph Floyd of La Marque; Katie Webb of Crosby, Texas; and Dallas Nunn and wife Angie of Wichita Falls; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia lived at Lakewood Village apartment community for the past five years. Lakewood Village is part of Christian Care retirement communities. She was able to live out her final years surrounded by loving, caring staff and many friends at Lakewood. She would be honored to have any size donation made in her memory to: https://christiancarecenters.org/cccs-general-donation/ or a charity of your choice.
