Born in Middle Grove, IL, to Birtus L. Nichols and his then-wife Grace. Grace would later marry Charles Barkley who adopted both Frank and his sister, Myrtle, at their very young ages. Frank, as a young boy, is pictured and seated front row far left within the black and white photo presented. On 26 December 1925, Frank married Irene Tressa Kirkpatrick. They were married 63 years and three months producing three children; Virginia, Robert (Bob), and Carolyn. Frank was a genuine, well-respected and affable character who possessed a hard work ethic, diverse talents and skills to include shop and auto mechanics as well as strummin' a banjo. During the lean Great Depression years, he had the brilliant idea to play an old auto radiator fan atop an outhouse, run a wire line to his farm house attached to an old battery which then conducted enough power to run the radio for Sunday family program entertainment. During his later years, he was a trophy winning shuffleboard master with a quiet but fierce competitive drive. He also relished Horehound Hard Candies as they were the only candies whom his many grandchildren did not manage to misappropriate nor enjoy, avoiding them at all costs. He died in Macomb, IL, on 09 March 1989. He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Robert F. Barkley, DDS.
