On Saturday at 2 pm, George Kulinovich was instantly killed and Elisha Andrews badly injured at the fifth level, west, of the Mariposa mine. They were running the drift, working a machine drill. Andrews was a machine man, Kulinovich being a chuck tender. The drill struck a missed hole, causing an explosion. Kulinovich's face was terribly torn, his skull being crushed by flying rock. Andrews lost both eyes, his face badly cut. One rock cut through his windpipe. He will recover, though he will be totally blind. After the accident Andrews crawled to the shaft, a distance of thirty feet, and gave the accident signal. Both men were taken to the top and a physician called to attend Andrews. Kulinovich was buried Monday by the Mariposa lodge, K of P. He has a mother and brother in Austria.
Andrews' father of Grass Valley is in Mariposa with his son. Elisha will be taken to Grass valley when he is able to travel.
