Col. Chesley B. Maddox, Jr. died of kidney failure on June 28, 2007 at the age of 77. Col. Maddox was born February 2, 1930 in Medulla, FL. He attended public schools in Medulla and Mulberry. After graduating high school, he worked for V-C Chemical Corp at Nichols for four years. He then enlisted in the Army in 1951 and became a commissioned officer in 1952. During his 25 year Army career, he served in various command and staff positions in the states and overseas. He was a paratrooper, Master Army Aviator, and avinoic program manager. While in the Army, he earned BGE and MBA degrees and was a graduate of the Army's Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He served one tour in Germany and two tours in Vietnam. His many decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, and numerous service awards. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and an inductee in the Infantry School Hall of Fame. After completing service, he founded Midland Chemical Corp. and served as its president until it was acquired and merged with another firm. He then worked as a self-employed busienss consultant.

Col. Maddox is survived by his wife, Eva (Mock) Maddox; daughter, Betty Monroe; four grandchildren. He was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Lakeland, FL. and Devotion Lodge #160., F&AM, Lexington, KY and Scottish Rite, KS.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Dukes-Steen Chapel, Lakeland, FL. Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with interment at Oak Hill Burial Park.
