President of E.P. Hinkel a carpet & rug firm in N.E. D.C. which he had bought and renamed in 1930. He had worked for that firm when he left school early and worked his way up from that of 'office boy'. He was said to have made the company one of the largest in the southern U.S. at that time, supplying gov't. offices at all levels, hotels, and theaters with rugs and carpets. In addition to that business, he headed Ross & Wells, an electrical contracting outfit, and was a member of a few advisory boards in the D.C. area. He also found the time to be a member of many civic and business organizations.
