Alex "Butch" Hillard of Sadorus died on Monday (Jan. 3, 2011) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.

Alex "Butch" Hillard was born on April 25, 1946, in Urbana, Illinois, a son of Arthur and Luella Hillard. He married Pamela J. Pryor on April 24, 1965, in Urbana. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Ault.

He is survived by his wife, Pam, and his son, Steve Hillard (Tina) of Sadorus. He also has two granddaughters, Stephanie and Shelby Hillard of Sadorus.

His occupation was auto mechanic. He worked for Twin City Radiator, University Ford, Shahley GMC, Dave's Truck & Auto, and Prairie International throughout his career.

As a mechanic, he helped tutor several young men over the years on how to perform repairs on most vehicles. He was very accomplished with his skills and was a wealth of knowledge.

He won countless races and track championships at Farmer City, Charleston and Vermillion County speedways. He later became his son's crew chief for numerous wins, track championships, state championships and national titles in various divisions of dirt track racing.

His hobbies were racing, fishing and anything mechanical. His best pal was Billie. He liked taking car rides, long walks and rides on the golf cart. He loved his family very much.

He will be remembered as a warm and loving husband, father and grandfather.
