Carlton Lawson Cashon was born in McKinney, Texas July 5, 1921 to James Clide and Katie Ruth Horn Cashon. His people were farmers and he was raised in a community of family members and friends. He attended the Rowlett schools until he went to board in McKinney, Texas while he attended high school. He was popular with his classmates, played football (earning the name "Wrong Way Cashon" by running the wrong way down the field to the opponent's goal) and attracted the attention of many young women including Lyla Sanders who would become his wife March 1, 1940.
During the war they lived on a farm outside McKinney. Carlton wasn't allowed to enlist because of his profession. However he did enlist at the end of the war so the men returning from war could go home. He served a little over a year in the Army Air Corps as a mechanic in Michigan.
He and Lyla returned to the farm at the end of his enlistment. Shortly after they returned Carlton went to work for Clyde McWilliams building houses. In 1948 he went to work for Mobil Oil Company as a carpenter for the Dallas Mobil Building. One of his favorite jobs was working on the Red Horse. I remember as a little girl he would take me up to the platform and we marveled at how far one could see. He watched the infamous 1950's tornado cut up Dallas from that vantage point.
Carlton was predeceased by His father, Clide Cashon and mother Ruth Cashon. His baby brother, J.C. Cashon and his dear sister Nell, her husband Don Teeter. His niece Tonda. And his Wife Lyla Lee Sanders Cashon.
He is survived by his daughter Carla and son-in-law Volney Randall. His granddaughter Patricia and her husband Jason Kirkley. Three great grand children: Christina and her husband Jeff Parker and their two children, Annabeth and Liam Parker: Blake McKnight and his wife Erin and their two children Raylee and Raiden McKnight; Joshua Kirkley. His nephews, J.C. Teeter and his wife Theresa and two great grand nephews, Shaun and Shad Teeter; Kelly Don Teeter and his wife Jessica and two great grand nieces, Ratonia and Ralynn. And the sons of his niece Tonda, Heath and Cody Brazile.
Carlton was a precious father, dear friend and grateful for the many helping hands he met along the way as he returned the kindness to others. He passed on January 1,2021 in Denton, Texas.
