Raymond Elis Chaska, age 97, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at St. Gabriel's Community in Bismarck, North Dakota. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Silha Funeral Home in Beach. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2021 with Celebrant Heidi Carney officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Ray was born on December 8, 1923 on the family farm south of Belfield, North Dakota to Albert and Marie (Turner) Chaska. He moved to Beach in 1938 with his mother, after his father's passing.
Ray worked in construction with his brothers, Lynn and Ryland. He worked for eighteen years for Homer Madison at the Exxon Service Station, the City of Beach, and was in partnership with his brother, Ryland in later years running the Beach Bowling Alley. Ray was married to Eleanor Johnson, and had one son, Albert, who passed away in 2010. He later moved to the Golden Valley Manor in September of 2010.
Ray's hobbies were dancing, playing softball, golfing, bowling and watching them on TV. He was an avid card player and unbeatable in cribbage.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marie Chaska; his wife, Eleanor; his son, Albert; his brothers, Earl, Albert, Lawrence, Mitchell, Lyle, Ryland and Lynn and his sisters, Burneese, Avenal and Mavis Oneyear.
Ray is survived by his daughter-in-law, Trina Chaska; a granddaughter, Rae Ann (Logan) Cox and numerous nieces and nephews.
