John Newman, 77 years of age, a respected and widely known pioneer of Linn county, was found dead Monday morning in the rear of a building owned by relatives at his home in Toddville. The coroner, who was called immediately after the discovery of the body, pronounced a verdict that death was the result of an attack of rheumatism.
Mr. Newman for many years was a barber and had accumulated considerable wealth, although advancing age had prevented his active engagement in business for some years. Mr. Newman had never married and the only surviving relatives are two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the M.E. church at Toddville. Burial will be in the Dunkard cemetery.
