David E. Rains, age 80, of Anderson, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson on December 30, 2020. He was born in Seymour, Indiana to the late Everett Rains and Virginia Shaffer.

David was a graduate of Dugger High School, Dugger, IN Class of 1958. He served in the United States Navy for several years prior to retiring from Delco Remy. David spent all the time he could flying airplanes. He was a pilot and was proud to own a Challenger Airplane. He and his wife loved to travel and venture out west. He loved his family dearly and was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna Rains (Durbin); children Glenn Rains, Carrie Sherman, Millie Hajny (Kevin), Terri Cherry, Patti Hester (Mark); grandchildren Jessica Fetters (David), Hannah Rains, Robert Lane (Jessica), Michael Stapleton, Martin Stapleton (Gretchen), Crystal Karas (Trenton), Megan Graham(Matt), Steven Hester, Christopher Hester, and Jessica Hajny; great-grandchildren Aiden, Aleigha, Damon, Darian, Serenity, Kaden, Zarra, Zaiden, Austin, Whitney, Merrick, Saphira, Quorra, Aaliyah, and Kyrie; sisters Rita Burks (Randee), Ann Bedwell (Lance), and Bonnie Bell; and several aunts, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents listed above; brother Frank Smith; and grandson Jacob Lane.

Services will be for immediate family on Monday, January 11, 2021 with a graveside service at Grove Lawn Cemetery in Pendleton at 1pm.
