Thelma Rhea Poole Sawyers, age 91, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, in the Valley Health Care Center.
She was born in Pennsylvania to the late C. M. and Myrtle Alice Poole.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" J. Sawyers, and one grandson, Richard "Tony" Anthony Cirillo.
She was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and was the last charter member of East End Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Peggy Simons and husband Lloyd, Marion, Nancy Bales and husband Don, Marion, Don Sawyers and wife, Janet, Marion, and Lyndia Johnson and husband Dennis, Marion; two brothers, Lloyd Poole and wife Johnsie, Christiansburg, Va., and Ralph Poole, Dublin, Va.; her grandchildren, Ricky Simons, Mike Simons, Brian Simons, Sonja Shelton and Darrin McIntyre; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Humfleet and the Rev. Randy Meade officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
