Billy Frank Geter, Sr. parted this life peacefully at his home on “The Hill” in Hico, Hamilton County, Texas, on January 5, 2021, at 74 years old. Billy was born in Carlton, Hamilton County, Texas, on March 31, 1946, to William Franklin Geter and Nettie “Ruth” French Geter. He spent his summers growing up in Hamilton County on the French farms, and attended school at Wilmer-Hutchins in Dallas County. He married “Lori” Delores Evelyn Evans on November 7, 1973, and they had two sons, William Franklin Geter, and Billy Frank Geter, Jr. Billy and Lori were divorced in 1981, and Billy raised his sons as a single father (with the help of his mother, whom the boys called Nanny, and sister Joan Throneberry).
Billy spent most of his working years as a painter and roofer. He traveled with his brother-in-law,“Willie” William Marshall Throneberry as they painted IHOP restaurants across the United States. After he retired as a contractor, Billy chose to stay on “The Hill”, as his family affectionately calls it, he remained as close to his property in Hico as possible. Billy greatly enjoyed fishing and would go every chance he got. He was known to his grandkids as “G’pa” or “Grandpa” and would take them fishing as soon as they were potty trained. Aspen, Trey and Denis spent their preschool years with Billy in what became known to them as “Grandpa School”. Many nieces and nephews called him Uncle B. He loved spoiling kids, especially with sugar. Visiting him you could be sure there was Pepsi, ice cream, moon pies, sugar butter bread and more for your enjoyment as you heard all about the latest fishing tales from the Leon River, Lake Proctor, Lake Belton or the Bosque River.
Billy also enjoyed visiting and connecting with old friends and keeping up with Facebook. Many of his family and friends came to expect him to post the same monkey singing Happy Birthday; it did not feel like a birthday until he sent it.
Billy would help family and friends with all their projects, home remodeling, moving, getting pulled out of the mud, hauling hay and scrap metal and more. He tended a garden from which he selflessly shared its bounty with so many. He almost always had animals to care for, pigs, chickens, goats, bottle calves, etc. He had 10 years with his Pitbull named “Hey” originally known as “Polly”. Billy also owned a yellow horse that he claimed to be his favorite son.
He is survived by both of his sons William Franklin Geter and wife, Elise of Abernathy, Texas; Billy Frank Geter, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Olney, Texas; seven grandchildren, Ethan Riley Geter, Myrah Brynne Geter, Isaiah Landon Geter, Aspen Elise Geter, “Trey” Billy Frank Geter, III, Denis Otto Geter and Lucas William Geter; a sister Joan Geter Throneberry; several cousins, many nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews and more than a few great-great nieces and nephews.
