Ida B. (Garis) Bencsik, 89, of Souderton, PA, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, January 1, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. Born in Souderton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Garis, Sr. and Vera (Hummel) Garis and the beloved wife of the late Simon Bencsik with whom she shared thirty-four years of marriage.
She was a 1949 graduate of Souderton High School. Ida was employed by Sauter Packaging, American Olean Tile, and the Gauge.
Ida was a life-long member of the Souderton Brethren in Christ Church where she taught Sunday School for thirty years. Other extensive volunteer work throughout her lifetime included: twenty years of service at Grand View Hospital where in 1997 she won the LOVE (Life Of Volunteer Excellence) award, twenty years as a cashier at Care and Share, Indian Valley Public Library, E. M. Crouthamel Elementary School, delivered Meals on Wheels from the Souderton Senior Center, and called bingo at Valley Vista.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who devoted her life to her family. Ida was a faithful prayer warrior. She was an avid reader, enjoyed music, cooking, and traveling especially to Vermont. Ida will be remembered for her gracious hospitality.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Elmer Garis, Jr., Robert Garis, Paul Garis and LeRoy Garis; and sisters, Vera Kathryn Charles, Elsie Hyer, Ellen Collis, and Alma Fulmer.
Ida is survived by her daughter, Connie (Harold) Carver, of Bechtelsvillle, PA; and her son, Rory (Lori) Bencsik of Telford, PA; her five granddaughters, and her seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Arthur Garis of Telford, PA; and sisters, Elizabeth Whitley of Garner, NC, Emily Boyer of Hatfield, PA, Shirley Fox of Souderton, PA, and June Landis of Souderton, PA.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 8, at Franconia Mennonite Church, 613 Harleysville Pike, Telford. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Souderton.
