Mrs. Black was born February 3, 1944, in Wilmington, to the late Harvey B. Davis and Marie Campbell Davis.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. today (Sunday, May 15), at Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Langford officiating.
Elaine was very involved in the study of genealogy and assisted in the authoring of several books on the subject. She had a passion for animals and animal rescue. Elaine felt at home in the mountains and enjoyed vacationing there.
Mrs. Black is survived by her husband of 17 years, Charles Howard Black; two sons, Chris and Chad Harmon; stepsons, Vance H. Black, of Durham, and Stuart Black and wife, Jean, of Winston-Salem; stepdaughter, Cindy Eimers and husband, Robert, of Tampa, Fla.;
stepgranddaughters, Jenny, Jordan and Torrey; three brothers, Joe, Malcolm and Mitchell Davis.
