PEORIA - Wilferd Glen "Spike" Johnson, age 87, of Peoria passed away at 11:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Proctor Hospital.

He was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Eureka, Ill., to Jasper H. and Rena Elena Warnkes Johnson. Wilferd married Marie Good on May 17, 1974, in Peoria. She survives.

He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic Pacific and European Theater.

Wilferd was employed as a mechanic for the Mount Hawley Airport and later for Peoria Charter Coach, where he worked for several years prior to his retirement.

He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Tony E. (Margaret) Doxsie and Gayla Y. (John) Gilhooly, both of Peoria; several stepgrandchildren; and a nephew, Donald V. (Susan) Hicks of Stanley, Kan.

Wilferd was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Donna Curless; and a sister, Verneal Reeves.

Private interment will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation Services Inc. in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
