Donald H. DeFaut, 85, died Sunday, November 7, 2004, at 364 Forest Avenue, the home of his daughter and son-in-law with whom he was residing. He was born on February 28, 1919, in Sturgeon Bay, a son of Bernard and Silvia Davis DeFaut. After graduating high school in 1938, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Puerto Rico and Trinidad for the first part of World War II, ultimately landing in Normandy and fighting in the Battle of the Buldge. Donald earned the American Defense Service Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver and one Bronze Battle Star, a district Unit Badge with first Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and the Belgian Fourragere from the Belgian Government. After the war, he attended the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary School in Milwaukee and was again living in Sturgeon Bay, where in 1948, he met and married the love of his life, Alvere DeNiel. They moved to Fond du Lac in 1959. Donald worked many years at Zacherl Funeral Home and later at Hayes Real Estate and Mathews Real Estate in Fond du Lac.

Donald is survived by his daughter; ... a granddaughter, a grandson, great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alvere DeFaut, in June of 2000, after enjoying 52 years of marriage. He was further preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alan DeFoe, of Florida.

Private inurnment will be at Bayside Cemetery in Sturgeon Bay.
