C. Dean Kieffer, 82, of Fostoria, passed away 2:53am Monday December 28, 2020 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.

He was born April 13, 1938 to the late Harry J. and Bernice M. (Trout) Kieffer and grew up on a rural Arcadia farm. He attended Arcadia schools and Findlay College and played football at both levels. Dean served two tours with the U. S. Marines, including time in Japan. He married Patricia Cole in 1964 and she preceded him in death. He later married Cheryl Sue White in 2005 and she passed in 2012.

Dean always spoke glowingly of his family. Surviving is son, Dane C. (Angie) Kieffer, Findlay; daughters, Page C. (Kurt) Hernon, Lorain and Nicole C. (David) Alexander, Munroe Falls; grandchildren, Zane Kieffer, Jesse Hernon, Hiatt Hernon and Alexis Kieffer; sisters, Kay Beamer, Fostoria and Carol Good, Arcadia. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Renwick Kieffer; and sisters, Marilynn Rohwer and Bonnie Fuller.

Dean was very proud of his family heritage, frequently regaling Gene Kinn with stories of his Grandpa Trout, who judged chickens at county fairs throughout Ohio and an Uncle John Kieffer, who was Superintendent of Arcadia School.

Dean began his career selling advertising for the Republican Courier, Findlay. He later became the advertising manager and then advertising director at the Courier. He arrived in Fostoria in 1980 and was hired at the Review Times as marketing manager. He also served as general manager and vice president/general manager before becoming the publisher in 1998. He spent over 35 years in the newspaper business and was very involved with the community. He had spent time as president of the Fostoria Area Chamber of Commerce, president of the Fostoria Rotary Club, chairman of Fostoria Economic Development Corporation, a board member of the Seneca County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, campaign chair of the United Way of Fostoria and longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Arcadia

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:00 pm Saturday January 2, 2021 at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830. Military Honors will begin at 3:00 pm at the funeral home presented by the Fostoria United Veterans. Minister Joel Johnson will officiate the memorial service. The memorial service will be live streamed on Hoening Family Funeral Homes Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Cancer Patient Services in c/o the funeral home.
