"Seneca Falls, N.Y. - Charles F. Bellows, a former well-known and highly respected citizen of this place, died at the home of his son, M. D. Bellows, near Lodi, Cal., Saturday, Sept. 19, aged 76 years. Deceased was a son of Dr. Mathias Bellows, one of the pioneers of this place, who lived in a house on the site of the present King block in Fall Street. Charles received a good education and at the age of 25 married Miss Elizabeth Campbell who died in this place about nine years ago. He entered the employ of the Silsby Manufacturing Company and remained with them over 25 years. In the year 1876 or 7 he purchased the grocery business of S. L. Monroe and with his sons conducted it for several years and during his long residence he retained the confidence and respect of all. In 1889 father and son went to California where the son engaged in fruit culture which he is now following. Mr. Bellows is survived by his son and two daughters, Mrs. [Lillian] Clark of Adams and Mrs. William Clyde, all of this place." (Sep. 28, 1896, The Auburn Bulletin of New York state)
