Ms. Brenda Haddox Etheridge, age 71, of Winnfield, Louisiana, peacefully
passed away on December 24, 2020, with her children by her side after a
month long battle with Covid. Brenda was a loyal daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She loved her family and friends deeply and spent many hours praying and checking on them. Her beautiful smile and Christian witness served to impact others as she sought to glorify God in everything she did. Brenda was born on January 10, 1949, in Winnfield to the late Mr. and Mrs. Bluch Haddox. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. James Monroe Shelton and Mr. and Mrs. Elzy Haddox.
Brenda is survived by her two children, Dawn Rogers (Bill) of Winnfield and Rev. Trey Etheridge (Jessica) of Jonesboro, La. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren who were her heart: Kaci Rogers of Katy, Texas; Kali Rogers of Baton Rouge, La.; and Kaitlyn, Hethe, Jackson, and Chloe Etheridge of Jonesboro, La. Other special family members include cousins Becky Kelley, Steve Shelton (Gail), Dr. Mark Shelton (Jennifer), Bobbie Jean Mobley (Frank), Shelton Collins (Jackie), all of Winnfield, and James Lloyd Collins (Brenda) of Bossier City. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and close friends. From a very early age, Brenda took music lessons from Mrs. Edith Price, excelling in both organ and piano. Over time, piano definitely became her favorite instrument. As she grew older, she began to play for weddings and special events. In 1977, Brenda became the pianist for First Baptist Church of Winnfield, alongside her piano teacher Mrs. Price. Brenda continued to play the piano at FBC for 43 years, and was still playing immediately before her short illness. Brenda found great joy in playing the piano and never missed an opportunity to honor someone by playing at a wedding, funeral, or other event. Brenda was very active in her church and served in other various capacities through the years such as Sunday School teacher, FBC Handbell Choir, WMU, the Keenager Chorale, Pastor Search Committee, Day Care Committee, Judgement House, and music teacher for the Preschool Kindergarten. Although Brenda loved music, her professional career took her down the path of teaching children. She taught in the Winn Parish School System for over 35
years alongside some of her dearest friends. Toward the end of her career, she became a Parent Facilitator and enjoyed this job immensely by assisting both parents and children with areas of concern. She also loved mentoring new teachers and helping them grow into the job. Her motto was “Love to learn, learn to love”. Through her teaching profession, Brenda was also an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, as well as, the Winn Parish Retired Teachers Association.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Winnfield on Wednesday, December 30, from 5pm until 8pm. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church on Thursday, December 31, at 10am. Officiants will include Rev. Trey Etheridge, Dr. Jerry Pipes, Rev. John Holland, Rev. Danny Keyes, and Rev. Brian McAllister. Interment will follow under the direction of Southern Funeral Home at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield, La.
