Pasty Ray Evans Smith, 92, of Scottsdale, Arizona, formerly of Nederland, died Friday, December 18, 2020, at Avenir Memory Care, Scottsdale, Arizona. She was born May 9, 1928 in Cherokee County, Texas, to Ruby Leighton Scates Evans and Herman Ray Evans.
Patsy graduated from Tyler Commercial College in January of 1946. The following year, she married Howard Wilford Smith on December 24th. Patsy was a faithful member of Nederland First Baptist Church, Nederland, Texas where she was active with the Senior Adults and Choir.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Jan Hawkins and her husband, Gordon, of Scottsdale Arizona; son, Scotty Howard Smith and his wife, Anita, of Nederland, Texas; grandchildren, Todd Christopher Higbie and his fiancée, Berenice Beltran, of Austin, Texas; Kimberly Paige Higbie, of Dallas, Texas; Colby Scott Smith and his wife, Sarah, of Dallas, Texas; Travis Jeremy Smith, of Dallas, Texas; and Laren Pinder, of Nederland, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jayce Ferguson, of Nederland, Texas and Olivia Rose Deeley-Smith, of Dallas, Texas; brother, Joe Evans and his wife, Maryanne; and nephews, David Evans and his wife, Becky, of Anahuac, Texas and Andy Evans and his wife, Tammy, of Tatum, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Herman Evans and husband, Howard Smith.
A gathering of Mrs. Smith’s family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
