GALESBURG -- K. Stuart Hawkinson, 86, of 633 Willard St. died at 12:50 a.m. Monday, March 1, 1999, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Born Feb. 20, 1913, in Galesburg to Carl Olof and Frances E. Lagergren Hawkinson, he married Janet E. Johnson on Oct. 2, 1934, in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth and Charles, both of Galesburg; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three brothers, John, Lloyd and James, all of Galesburg.

He worked as an agent for Prudential for 40 years, retiring in 1974. He attended Knox College and also received and taught the Charter Life Underwriter's College degree.

A World War II Army veteran, he achieved the rank of captain.

He was a lifetime member and former president of the Kiwanis Club. He was active in forming the United Way and was a former chairman.

He was a member of Covenant Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, trustee and the Christian education board. He also was a chairman of the church; the archivist for 20 years; and sang in the choir for 50 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at his church. The Revs. Thomas Ek and G. Harold Ahlberg will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
