James A. “Jim” Ferguson, 79, Ottawa, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at his residence in Ottawa.

A funeral mass is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Ferguson from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where a rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Friday followed by a family visitation from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa, with military honors by the Kansas National Guard.

He was born Wednesday, June 7, 1933, in Chapman, the son of George E. and Ella (Fiest) Ferguson.

He grew up in Chapman, and lived in Eudora from 1953 until moving to Ottawa in 1960.

Jim graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1952.

Jim worked at the Weidner Service Station until 1953, when he moved to Eudora to farm his sister’s acreage. They moved to their farm on Rock Creek Road in 1960. He worked at the Chevrolet dealership in Eudora. In the 1960s, he helped the contractors who were installing rural water for Rural Water District No. 2 and worked for the rural water district from 1984 until early 2012.

He served 13 years in the Army National Guard.

Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa, and served on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

On June 11, 1955, James was united in marriage with Donna Lea Barber in Ottawa. She survives of their home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ella Ferguson; five brothers, Ralph, Edward, Bernard, George and Robert Ferguson; and two sisters, Lillian Speicher and Grace Piersol.

Survivors include three sons, James L. Ferguson, Ottawa, Joseph Ferguson and his wife, Debbie, Ottawa, and Jerald Ferguson, Ottawa; daughter, Diane Lines and her husband, Randy, Lincoln, Mo.; twin sister, Mary Ann Neiswander, Topeka; 11 grandchildren, Shane, Mark, Kimberly, Christopher, Nathan, George Robert, Neal, Nicole, James P., Sherry and Nicholas; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and cousin, Wayne Thorpe, Fort Scott.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Sacred Heart Catholic Church through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
